In one of my very first posts, I wrote about advertising for prescription drugs and how ridiculous and harmful to society I think it is.

In it, I learned something new. The U.S. is one of only two developed countries in the world to allow this type of advertising(New Zealand is the other). I also learned that the AMA has recommended that we end the practice outright, citing, what else, exorbitantly high prescription drug prices. The pharmaceutical industry spent 5.2 billion dollars on advertising last year. That’s an obscene amount and a sneaky end around the doctors, who after all, are the ones who actually know which medicines we need.
Do we really want to lower our health insurance costs? One way to do so would be to ban this type of advertising.
