People are Strange

Well, here we are on March 16th and it’s very much looking like Trump will finish on top for the GOP.  Whether or not he gets the delegates needed to win the nomination is still very much up in the air though.  Will there be a brokered convention?  Will the party split this summer?  There are many questions and few answers right now.  I guess we’ll have to nervously wait to see if the GOP comes to their senses and puts forward a serious candidate that actually could appeal to more than just their base.

I was at my son’s High School last night for the varsity baseball team’s annual fundraiser and I sat at a table with some of the other parents that I know.  They were all Trump supporters.  Every one of them.  I tried to stay out of it as best I could.  There was no changing their minds anyway.  They said they are tired of the Bushes and the Clintons. I heard them say that they want an outsider to come in and shake things up and that the current way of doing things is not working.  It’s hard to argue with that.  Don’t we all want things to be different in Washington?  I’m all for a shake up.  Not with Trump though.  He’s dangerously unqualified for the most important job in the world.  He’s reckless with his rhetoric. He has proposed an unconstitutional ban on Muslims entering the country which goes against everything we are supposed to stand for.  Never mind the racist and sexist comments.  Some of us are apparently just okay with those.

We’re living in a strange, tumultuous time.  In my opinion, the world we live in has changed very quickly.  Gay marriage is legal.  The white majority is shrinking.  Fewer people view religion in the traditional way.  So I think that for a lot of Trump supporters, and republicans in general, there is a sense that the world as they knew it has changed and not for the better and they are clinging desperately to something they will never get back.  The violence we are seeing is a product of this change.  I would not be surprised if we are in for a very violent Summer, in and around the political conventions.

Strange days have found us
Strange days have tracked us down
They’re going to destroy
Our casual joys
We shall go on playing
Or find a new town
Yeah!

Sticking with my Doors theme, here is, hands down, my all-time favorite Doors song.  Hopefully, there will not be blood in the streets this Summer.

  1. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Both sides are attacking him viciously and that is making him very appealing to a public that is sick of the same stuff in DC no matter who runs the show. A lot of people also feel that God, Country and family are being attacked or pushed aside by a society or portion thereof, that seems to forget what it took to get to this point. One other comment. How is he unqualified to be the president? Anyone born in the US and is 35 yrs of age, there is no real job description saying you need a MS with 15 years of experience is back slapping, hand shaking or ass kissing. Beyond that the American people decide, sometimes we get it right, sometimes we do not. SO if the public wants Trump then so be it. You ask me, not a one currently in DC is qualified to be president or in congress.

    1. Thanks for commenting, as always. I have approved every comment that has been made on this blog so far and always welcome differing opinions. You said ” A lot of people also feel that God, Country and family are being attacked” and I agree with you that a large number of republican leaning people feel that way. I pretty much said that. I do not in any way agree with that sentiment but I acknowledge it and understand it. As far as qualifications go, I of course, did not mean technically, according to the constitution. In that sense, he has every right to run. As far as experience, temperament, and sheer, geopolitical brainpower? Well, he’s a really great salesperson. That’s the best I can offer. I think that if he does get the nomination, he’ll get clobbered and take the Senate republicans down with him. But hey, the people will have spoken :).
