Comfortably Numb

Yesterday was David Gilmour’s 70th birthday.  As I’m wont to do, I put a link on my Facebook page of a live performance of Comfortably Numb and wished him a happy birthday(in my head, we’re Facebook friends). I also commented that I never get tired of this song  and especially, the guitar solo.

Then, later in the day, Lord of the Rings was on TNT and of course, I got sucked right into it again, much to the amusement and perhaps, exasperation, of the Missus and number two son.  I’ve seen all three movies at least ten times and love to torture my kids by reciting the lines before the actors do.  I’ve read the books at least five times over the years.  I never get tired of it.  I can’t get enough of it.

And that’s what this post is about, pop culture that, even though you’ve seen, heard, or read it a million times, you still never get tired of it.  So for me, Comfortably Numb and LOTR fall into that category, along with many others.  Here’s a brief list of pop culture oddities that I never get tired of: Roadhouse(if there’s a better cheesy movie, I haven’t seen it), every book by Guy Gavriel Kay, all things Led Zeppelin, The Outlaw Josie Wales, all things Grateful Dead, The Stand, and The Silence of the Lambs.

I have many more items that I could add to that list but I’m interested to read about some of yours in the comment section!

  1. Never tire of and have seen each at least 5 to 10 times-

Mafia/Gang movies: The Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas, A Bronx Tale, Once Upon A Time in America, Casino
Prison movies: The Shawshank Redemption, Papillon, Cool Hand Luke
Vietnam or other War movies: Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, The Green Berets, Platoon, The Great Escape, All Quiet on the Western Front
Other Period/Historical movies: Glory, The Outlaw Josie Wales, Master & Commander, The Last of the Mohicans

I don’t think I have ever read a book twice other than All Quiet on the Western Front.

  2. Indiana Jones and original Star Wars movies always drag me in.
Funny, always wanted to read All Quiet on the Western Front.
